The UGE Skilled Laborer/Groundman is a key member of the Line team, responsible for supporting the crew by assisting with the installation/repair of underground power lines. This role requires a strong focus on safety and a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the construction site for work, removing debris and potential hazards.
  • Gather materials needed to complete daily work at the jobsite, ensuring the crew has everything required.
  • Assist tradesmen in completing their skilled tasks more effectively.
  • Operate construction and jobsite equipment safely, including rubber-tired backhoes, skid steer loaders, directional drills, trenchers, and mini excavators.
  • Restock trucks with supplies, ensuring crews have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in utilities or construction.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience.
  • CDL Class A driver's license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of physical activity, including bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing. The role also involves working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. The ability to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds is essential. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, is also required. Precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors are necessary for this role.
