Entry Level Sushi Specialist

About the Role:
This entry-level position is designed to help you master knife skills, fundamentals of rolling sushi, and food safety. As a Sushi Chef I, your responsibilities will include preparing traditional Japanese sushi rice, chopping, slicing, and filleting various types of fish, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Competencies:
You should possess strong people skills, including effective communication and teamwork. Core culinary skills are essential, as well as knowledge of our products and quality control processes. You must be able to work under pressure and maintain restaurant-quality standards during busy periods.
Responsibilities:
- Cut, slice, and fillet different types of fish and vegetables
- Inspect the quality of fruits, vegetables, and fish used to prepare sushi dishes and inform the STL when quality is sub-standard
- Prepare various types of sushi dishes according to established guidelines on quality, portion size, presentation, and food safety
- Maintain a clean work environment to prevent food contamination
- Report any problems with kitchen equipment to the manager on duty
- Sterilize all utensils, instruments, and equipment used in sushi preparation before every use
- Greet and communicate with customers to ensure they feel valued
Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 months in the food service industry; sushi rolling experience preferred
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Valid food handler's license with sound knowledge of food safety regulations
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work under pressure with sound judgment
What We Offer:
We offer a competitive salary range of $16.00-$18.00 USD hourly.
