Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Geodynamics

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the University of California, Davis. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and support of teaching numerical modeling in geodynamics and towards developing independent research. The position is expected to last for an initial 2-year term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Key Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for:
* Developing and supporting teaching numerical modeling in geodynamics
* Contributing to the development of independent research projects
* Collaborating with the CIG community and relevant outside communities
* Participating in ongoing CIG Headquarters' activities, including maintaining the community software infrastructure and participating in outreach
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading courses in geodynamics or geophysics that utilize computational teaching methods, excellent programming, analytical, writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience programming in Python and markdown in a Jupyter notebook environment is also required. Knowledge of additional object-oriented programming languages is preferred. The ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team is essential.

A maximum 5-page statement of research utilizing modeling software or driven by software development proposed to conduct during the postdoctoral fellowship is also required. In addition, applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of collaboration from a relevant CIG working group, lead developer of the software project they will work with, or project advisor.
