Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the University of California-Davis. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and support of teaching numerical modeling in geodynamics and towards developing independent research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in computational geodynamics, focusing on the development and application of numerical models.
  • Collaborate with the Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics (CIG) team to advance the development and dissemination of software for geophysics and related fields.
  • Develop and maintain open-source software for geodynamics, ensuring its quality, reliability, and scalability.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and teaching modules for computational geodynamics, incorporating best practices in teaching and software development.
  • Participate in ongoing CIG Headquarters' activities, including maintaining the community software infrastructure and participating in outreach and education initiatives.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading courses in geodynamics or geophysics that utilize computational teaching methods.
  • Excellent programming, analytical, writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience programming in Python and markdown in a Jupyter notebook environment.
  • Knowledge of additional object-oriented programming languages is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and running computational models in geodynamics.
  • Knowledge of best practices in open-source software development.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with software development and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of geodynamics and related fields.
  • Experience with teaching and educational materials development.
