Job Summary

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Interventional Radiography position at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is responsible for performing and coordinating Vascular Interventional (Angiography) exams and procedures. The incumbent will operate independently and without direct supervision, utilizing specialized equipment to perform diagnostic angiographic procedures and complex vascular and non-vascular interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate Vascular Interventional (Angiography) exams and procedures
  • Operate specialized equipment to perform diagnostic angiographic procedures and complex vascular and non-vascular interventional and therapeutic procedures
  • Administer contrast media under the supervision of the staff radiologist and confer with the radiologist to establish requirements regarding contrast agents, vital signs, medications, and physiologic monitoring
  • Prepare contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing Angio/Interventional examinations
  • Perform Quality Control procedures, including daily tube warm-up and calibration, lead apron & glove radiation attenuation/penetration survey, and daily computer file maintenance
Requirements
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE)
  • Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures
  • Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers
  • Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure
Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in a fast-paced environment, utilizing specialized equipment to perform diagnostic angiographic procedures and complex vascular and non-vascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. The incumbent must be able to work independently and without direct supervision, and must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and radiologists.
