Job Summary:

The Illinois Secretary of State is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of the Department of Physical Services. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the management of the State Capitol Complex and other facilities utilized by the office of the Secretary of State throughout the State.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs and evaluates the activities of the divisions within the Department, including Administrative, Custodial/Special Events, Mailing and Shipping, Warehouse, Planning and Development, Construction and Maintenance, and Engineering.
  • Coordinates and directs activities for Physical Services in multiple locations, including Chicago.
  • Directs public relations, personnel management, and budgetary management functions for the Department.
  • Negotiates with bargaining agents of organized labor for employees within the Department.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with other local union officials.
  • Meets and works with subordinate management staff and/or management of other departments to coordinate program activities and resolve administrative or operational problems.
  • Implements and formulates policies and procedures for the department.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of experience managing a large operation, with four (4) years of experience in the construction and maintenance field. Experience with state government and state projects is preferred but not required.
