Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Program Assistant will work closely with the Early Childhood Program Coordinator to provide comprehensive services to children from birth through four years old living in supportive housing. This role requires a strong commitment to providing a safe, positive, and healthy learning environment for children to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement a variety of activities to promote socio-emotional growth in young children, including problem-solving, conflict resolution, and social skills.
  • Provide opportunities for children to explore and develop their cultural identity.
  • Record progress of individual children's skill development and maintain accurate records.
  • Establish and maintain regular open communication with parents/guardians to ensure a collaborative approach to supporting children's needs.
  • Report any suspected child abuse to the supervisor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized learning environment, including preparing materials and resources for activities.
  • Attend on-going trainings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • One year of experience working with children and families, preferably in a structured children's setting.
  • A valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Minnesota Background Study clearance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and ability to learn new systems as needed.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently, prioritizing job duties and managing time effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the effects of trauma on individuals and its impact on successful residency, including an understanding of homeless populations.
Physical Demands:

This role requires the ability to safely navigate stairs, bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
