Job Purpose

We're seeking a highly skilled Head of Data Engineering to join our Data Office. This critical role will report to our Chief Data Officer and lead a team of data engineers. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering data products that empower our business to make informed decisions and drive growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage data pipelines to ensure compliance with data governance and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to design and deliver optimal analytics and data science solutions.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through validation, reconciliation, and automated testing.
  • Promote data governance activities and exercise authority and control over data.
  • Work with Platform engineering teams to drive automation through metadata management and innovative tools.
  • Effectively promote data products approach within the enterprise and support product-centric innovation.
  • Prepare architectural patterns, guardrails, and best practices related to Data engineering.
  • Ensure alignment with Enterprise strategies and document implications of trade-offs.
Requirements
  • Strong experience building, managing, and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic business environment.
  • Highly creative and collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to network and be recognized as a data expert across various business and IT roles.
  • Effectiveness in evangelizing and educating on data issues.
Technical Skills
  • Object-oriented/object function scripting using languages such as R, Python, Java, C++, Scala, and others.
  • Integrate large heterogeneous datasets using ETL/ELT, data replication/CDC, message-oriented data movement, API design and access, data virtualization, and stream data integration.
  • Strong experience with data governance, data quality, and data security.
  • Experience with data science platforms, data discovery, analytics, and BI software tools.
  • Containerization techniques such as Docker, Kubernetes, and others.
Education and Training
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, information science, data management, or a related field is preferred.
Previous Experience
  • At least ten years of work experience in data management disciplines, including data integration, modeling, optimization, and data quality.
  • At least five years of experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in utilities in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiative.
