POSITION OVERVIEW:

  • An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a healthcare professional responsible for diagnosing, treating, prescribing, and assisting in surgical interventions. APPs collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive patient care in various settings. They are integral in formulating and executing patient care strategies, establishing protocols, conducting clinical research, and advocating for patient needs.
  • For those licensed as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), the role encompasses advanced practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership aimed at improving nursing practices and patient outcomes.

o APRNs deliver healthcare services with an emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of both acute and chronic conditions. They perform patient evaluations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, execute procedures, educate patients and their families, and address social and ethical considerations.

  • For those licensed as Physician Assistants (PA), the role involves practicing medicine under the supervision of a physician. PAs provide healthcare services that include health promotion, disease management, and patient education.

o PAs undertake responsibilities assigned by supervising physicians, which include patient evaluations, test interpretations, procedures, and addressing the social, economic, and ethical dimensions of patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE:
  • Must possess a valid Hawaii State license as an APRN or Physician Assistant.
If APRN, must be board-certified in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP).
  • Prescriptive authority for medications is essential.
  • Credentialing, privileging, and current BLS certification are mandatory.
EXPERIENCE:
  • For APRNs, a minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience or completion of an APRN Fellowship Program is required. One (1) year of clinical experience as an APRN or Physician Assistant is preferred.
