KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Trust and Estate Partners and Of Counsel with estate administration and all Surrogate Court Proceedings, including special needs planning;
  • Help draft probate and administration petitions and documents, guiding clients through Surrogate Court practices and procedures;
  • Provide representation and legal counsel to clients regarding guardianship matters;
  • Possess a working knowledge of the department's estate tax and accounting system (FAS);
  • Ensure adherence to, and remain informed about, updates to state and federal laws and regulations, providing advice accordingly;
  • Offer legal guidance, identify potential risks, suggest solutions, and represent clients in Court concerning Estate Administration and Guardianships;
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries and collaborate with other attorneys within the firm.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution and be licensed to practice law in New York;
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience, with Medicaid planning experience being advantageous;
  • Capable of managing complex projects with general direction and minimal oversight;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow effectively;
  • Demonstrated capacity to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of management.
