The salary for this role is estimated to be between $111,000 and $164,000 per year, plus bonus and equity opportunities.

Job DescriptionThermal Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Thermal Design Engineer to join our Hardware Design Team. As a Thermal Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing thermal cooling solutions for our advanced hardware systems. This will involve using computational fluid dynamics tools and relevant simulation tools to describe system thermodynamics and heat transfer.

You will engage with external vendors, including ODM and component vendors, on design, test, and production. Additionally, you will develop and publish case studies and technical papers describing thermal analysis of cooling systems and technologies.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of thermal fundamentals and the ability to work collaboratively with our team, partners, and vendors. You will be responsible for solving heat transfer problems occurring in complex subcomponents or full hardware systems, using comprehensive thermal design fundamentals and analytical tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and/or 2+ years of relevant experience in thermal design related to server/hardware or advanced packaging.
  • Familiarity with computational thermal simulation software, such as Flotherm/Future Facilities/Icepak.
  • Record of using lab equipment such as data acquisition systems, air flow chambers, and environmental chambers for thermal validation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in designing and optimizing thermal cooling solutions, such as custom-made heat sink designs, and/or fan speed control algorithms.
