Job Title: Assistant Head Nurse

The Assistant Head Nurse plays a crucial role in coordinating, developing, implementing, and evaluating nurse care and practice within a specific unit. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills to direct and guide unit personnel in maintaining standards of nursing care and practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing nurse care and practice within the unit
  • Direct and guide unit personnel in maintaining standards of nursing care and practice
  • Collaborate with nurse manager and educator in orienting professional and ancillary nursing personnel
  • Participate in unit-based continuous quality/performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure regulatory agency compliance during assigned shifts
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the Organization
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Nursing or equivalent from an accredited nursing program
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years' medical-surgical nursing, charge nursing, or equivalent experience
  • Critical thinking, math, and computer skills
  • Excellent oral and communication skills
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Able to read, write, see, and hear English
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current NY State RN License required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • ACLS required
  • Medical Surgical Certification preferred
Physical Requirements:

This position requires a physically demanding, high-stress environment with prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking, and lifting. The individual in this position may be exposed to adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, blood-borne pathogens, blood and body fluids, physical hazards, communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions.
