Child Life Department Overview

The Child Life department at Children's Minnesota plays a vital role in promoting the continuous development of children, minimizing psychological stress and trauma, and increasing understanding and coping with illness and healthcare experiences.

Our team of Child Life Specialists provides children with opportunities for play, learning, self-expression, family involvement, and peer interaction, while advocating for children and families in ambulatory and inpatient settings.

Position Summary

The Child Life Specialist will focus on promoting the continuous development of children, optimizing their responses to medical care, and minimizing psychological stress and trauma.

This is a casual position that will cover open shifts at multiple campuses, requiring a Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field, and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities
  • Provide child life services to children and families in ambulatory and inpatient settings.
  • Develop and implement child life interventions to promote child development and coping skills.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide comprehensive care to children and families.
  • Advocate for children and families in healthcare settings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Child life certification preferred at time of hire, otherwise required within first year of hire.
