Job Summary

At Hospital for Special Care, we are seeking a skilled Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a per diem basis. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting a goal-oriented program of respiratory therapy interventions to facilitate optimal cardiopulmonary function and health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, and neurological impairments as dictated by the State of CT practice act and licensure requirements.
  • Recognize physiological, psychological, and age-related changes in patients and consult with other healthcare team members to establish goals based on respiratory practice standards, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Plan, implement, deliver, and delegate patient care by utilizing appropriate therapeutic modalities and interventions based on assessments, revising treatments, patient family education, and participating in discharge planning.
  • Coordinate time management of self by organizing schedule to meet patient care needs, carrying a patient load that meets productivity requirements, and reflecting HSC standards of practice.
  • Collaborate with team members for assistance to meet patient outcomes and department goals.
  • Document concurrently, following established EMR guidelines, all patient and professional interactions, including evaluations, assessments, and interventions, care plans, ordering and billing, and education.
  • Comply with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate understanding, both verbally and nonverbally, to patients and families, healthcare team members, supervisors, and students in an appropriate manner to enhance positive relationships both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions to promote the needs of the patient and the institution they represent.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of respiratory care as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed by the State of Connecticut.
  • CPR Certification - BLS for Healthcare Providers.
  • Active Member of the AARC (optional).
Working Conditions

This position requires standing and/or walking for long periods, up to one hundred fifty minutes at a time, with infrequent sitting. Overhead reaching, climbing, squatting, and kneeling are occasionally required. Bending and forward reaching frequently required to access equipment from high and low areas. Lifting of weights greater than seventy-five pounds is occasionally required for patient repositioning. Pushing of objects greater than sixty pounds is frequently required for patient transfer. Fine manipulation is required for patient care and ventilator management, also for writing and computer usage.
