GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Youth Support Specialist is responsible for managing a specific group of young individuals under court mandates, assisting them in fulfilling their legal obligations while developing essential life skills to prevent future encounters with the juvenile justice system. This role emphasizes the importance of establishing supportive relationships with both the youth and their families, integrating necessary resources for their success.

In this position, the specialist provides comprehensive case management, oversight, and community-based support services to a designated group of youth and their families within the Intensive Monitoring Program (IMP). All interactions are meticulously documented in the appropriate systems, ensuring that youth and their families adhere to the established supervision agreements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct daily in-person check-ins and accurately record interactions as per contractual obligations.
  • Visit educational institutions regularly to monitor youth progress and attendance.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to track daily attendance, address behavioral issues, and enhance the overall performance of each youth.
  • Facilitate weekly family sessions, providing necessary support and making referrals to additional County Programs when required.
  • Travel extensively (approximately 80% of the time within the designated area) to ensure compliance with court orders and curfews.
  • Commit to supporting any youth and family referred to the program throughout their engagement, recognizing and valuing their strengths, cultural backgrounds, and community ties.
  • Work collaboratively to develop client schedules and ensure effective communication with the entire support team.
  • Empower families in the decision-making process to help youth avoid further legal issues or ongoing involvement with the juvenile justice system.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation in accordance with program timelines.
  • Present required reports to relevant stakeholders, including judicial authorities.
  • Coordinate and fulfill assigned tracking and documentation responsibilities, ensuring that mandatory counseling and recreational activities are provided to each youth on the caseload.
  • Facilitate and supervise group sessions for youth and families.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of St. Charles Youth & Family Services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One to two years of experience working with programs serving delinquent or at-risk youth populations.
  • Valid driver's license and liability insurance required, in accordance with company driving policies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity in responding to diverse populations.
  • Understanding of adolescent and family dynamics.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Windows and agency database systems.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work may involve both indoor and outdoor settings, including client homes and community locations.
  • Frequent travel required, approximately 70%, using a company vehicle.
