This bonus is awarded after one year of employment.

Overview of the Quality Control Specialist Role:

The Quality Control Specialist Level 1 is responsible for conducting dimensional and functional inspections on both procured materials and produced components. This role requires technical knowledge and the use of inspection tools to ensure that materials and components meet specified drawings, process documentation, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute initial, in-process, and final inspections on parts supplied by vendors or manufactured by the company.
  • Act as a liaison between production and engineering teams to address and resolve any quality-related inquiries or issues.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Manager to establish, implement, and uphold quality systems and documentation to align with the company's quality management protocols.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain records of non-conformance reports (NCRs), update the NCR database, and communicate with clients to facilitate the return of non-compliant products.
  • Engage in special projects, investigations, and various assignments as needed.
  • Conduct calibrations on all testing and measurement instruments, maintain calibration records, and ensure timely completion of calibrations.
  • Keep documentation current by completing necessary paperwork, including inspection records and job travelers.
  • Provide training to team members on inspection techniques, work instructions, and production processes.
  • Offer ongoing feedback to the Quality Manager regarding quality, engineering, and manufacturing issues.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to quality systems and processes.
  • Conduct internal audits related to parts and processes.
  • Manage customer returns and ensure prompt resolution of parts.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in interpreting complex drawings and blueprints to understand part specifications, with a basic understanding of geometric tolerances.
  • Experienced in using various inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, gage pins, and gage blocks. Familiarity with CMM and thread gauges is advantageous.
  • Knowledgeable about current quality system standards such as ISO 9001 and/or TS 16949.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; knowledge of Access databases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is beneficial.

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • An Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.

Work Environment:

  • The role is set in a machine shop environment where dust, grease, and metal shavings are common.
  • Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and steel-toed shoes/boots is mandatory while on the shop floor.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
