Overview
This position is designated for U.S. Citizens and U.S. Nationals.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive maintenance, testing, and repair of all machinery within a hydroelectric power generation facility and associated pumping stations.
Responsibilities include overhauling, repairing, assessing, and conducting performance evaluations on turbines, generators, motors, air compressors, pumps, pressure regulators, valves, pipes, and other related mechanical components.
Operates the Domestic Water Treatment Facility at the powerplant, which includes managing operations, conducting tests on drinking water, and collecting samples for analysis.
Monitors laboratory-sensitive equipment, ensuring proper calibration and repair of mechanical controls, along with the disassembly, reconstruction, and fabrication of parts necessary for the facility's daily operations.
Operates heavy machinery such as cranes, backhoes, boom trucks, dump trucks, tractors, and forklifts.
Engages in welding activities utilizing both gas and electric welding equipment.
Operates various types of cranes and performs rigging tasks related to lifting, moving, disassembling, assembling, overhauling, and repairing machinery and equipment in the hydroelectric powerplant and pumping stations.
Utilizes technical drawings, specifications, and records to complete necessary documentation, including job hazard analyses, work plans, and special permits.
Plans work sequences, selecting appropriate tools and materials to effectively complete assignments.
Employment Conditions
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals.
Suitability for federal employment will be determined through a background investigation.

Candidates must meet any minimum education and/or experience requirements.
A valid State Driver's License must be maintained at all times, as the position requires the operation of government vehicles.
A successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician is required to certify the ability to perform the duties of this position.
Candidates must obtain a California Water Treatment License to operate the Domestic Water Treatment Facility within one year of employment.
Current or former federal employees must submit a performance appraisal.
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and training to fulfill the responsibilities of this position without requiring excessive supervision. Qualifications will be assessed based on the information provided in the resume and responses to assessment questions.
Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined through the evaluation of job elements. Candidates must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out elements and achieve an average of at least 2 points across all job elements to be considered qualified.
This position requires a fully skilled Plant Mechanic or Machinist with expertise in at least two of the following trades: Welder, Pipefitter/Plumber, Millwright, Crane Operator/Rigger. Applications lacking clear evidence of this experience will be deemed ineligible.
Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs and other organizations. All qualifying experience will be credited, including volunteer work.
Education
Educational qualifications cannot substitute for experience in this position.
