Job Title: Automation Controls Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Controls Engineer to join our team at The Computer Merchant, LTD.

Job Summary:

The Automation Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing industrial control systems from inception to completion. This role requires technical proficiency in various industrial controls platforms and the ability to interact with customers in design reviews, project updates, and installations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design electrical systems using AutoCAD Electrical software, including power distribution, safety circuits, I/O controls, communications, and panel layout drawings.
  • Calculate panel SCCR, power rating, and FLA for panel rating.
  • Direct electrical assembly during equipment build.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and robots for custom equipment, conveyor lines, and robot cells.
  • Configure, debug, and test equipment on the shop floor in preparation for customer reviews.
  • Lead runoff on the shop floor with customers.
  • Direct electrical assembly during installation of equipment.
  • Lead start-up at customer facilities and drive projects to completion.
  • Manage time and costs to be within budget and on schedule.
Requirements:
  • BS in a related engineering field or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Prefer 5+ years of controls experience in the machine building OEM industry.
  • Ability to travel and work at customer facilities for ~30%, typically in 2-week spurts.
  • Solid understanding of industrial controls and robotics concepts.
  • Proven ability in robot programming, Fanuc preferred.
  • Experience setting up machine vision for presence and inspection, Cognex and/or Fanuc IRVision preferred.
  • Talent in programming in a ladder logic environment: Allen Bradley Studio5000, Siemens Tia Portal, Proficy Machine Edition, and/or Toyopuc PCWin.
  • Experience setting up Remote IO and other components on industrial networks such as DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP.
  • Experience setting up Allen Bradley and/or Client HMI screens/panels.
  • Strong ability to communicate within the organization and directly with customers.
  • Ability to lead a project at installation and be the main customer interface.
  • Understanding of RIA Robot Safety Standards, OSHA Safety Standards, and NFPA 79 standards.
