Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of residents by delivering comprehensive services in a respectful and dignified manner. Reporting directly to the Health & Wellness Director, the LPN will oversee the activities of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Resident Assistants (RAs), fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes the individuality of each resident. This position is classified as safety-sensitive.
Key Responsibilities
While the following duties are essential, it is acknowledged that additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:
- Facilitate the admission process and orient new residents, ensuring a smooth transition for them and their families.
- Monitor residents' health and mental status, maintaining accurate records and promptly reporting any changes to the attending physician.
- Administer prescribed treatments and document residents' responses effectively.
- Collaborate with physicians regarding medication management and liaise with pharmacy services for proper medication handling.
- Uphold the rights of residents as outlined in the Resident Bill of Rights, ensuring all staff members adhere to these principles.
- Implement infection control protocols and ensure compliance among staff.
- Work alongside dietary personnel to provide appropriate nutritional and therapeutic diets for residents.
- Investigate and document any incidents involving residents.
- Coordinate the discharge and transfer processes for residents.
- Assist in direct care of residents as needed.
- Support the training of new staff members.
- Manage tasks within strict deadlines and under potentially high-pressure situations.
- Engage in daily resident programming activities.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is a fundamental requirement of this role.
The following skills and physical capabilities are necessary for effective performance in this role:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and following both written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to think critically and act on complex information.
- Capable of walking long distances regularly.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Skilled in pushing wheelchairs with residents weighing up to 200 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands.
- Effective hearing for ordinary conversations and office sounds.
- Strong verbal communication skills in person and over the phone.
- Competent in written communication using both hand and computer.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid LPN license in Florida; must maintain licensure.
- Completion of an LPN Supervisory Course or willingness to complete within six months of hire.
- At least two years of relevant experience in geriatrics, long-term care, home health, or similar healthcare settings.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
