Job Summary

Family Service and Guidance Center Topeka is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Technician to join our team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will provide one-to-one direct care to children and adolescents experiencing severe emotional disturbance or at risk of becoming SED.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide services based on the treatment team's decisions and work collaboratively with clients, families, and treatment teams to identify treatment goals, objectives, and discharge criteria.
  • Work with assigned clients during crisis situations, during and after crisis situations, and transport children in personal vehicles when necessary and appropriate.
  • Participate in quarterly program meetings, case review, case assignment, program maintenance, and operations, as well as training.
  • Report significant events to supervisors, crisis clinicians, and/or the director, and attend monthly individual supervision with a supervisor for case discussion and supervision.
  • Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and responsibility by assisting all staff and others during assigned shifts, and inform supervisors of any issues interfering with program operations.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely fashion, teach basic life skills, prepare meals for kids, and role model positive behaviors and interactions with other staff and clients.
  • Adhere to dress code, stay informed of agency policy changes, and maintain client confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old, at least three years older than the consumer, and not live in the same household as the consumer.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, with successful completion of a TB test, health assessment, and background investigations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, good driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of Managing Aggressive Behavior, CPR, and First Aid within the first 3 months of employment, and documentation training and state-approved online attendant care training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of documented experience with children with serious emotional disturbance, or completion of two years post-secondary education in a human service field, or a combination of experience and post-secondary education totaling at least two years.
  • Exposure and familiarity with MS Office products, and ability to type for electronic documentation purposes.
Work Environment

This position requires flexibility in scheduling, risk of exposure to aggressive and/or acting out children and youth, and exposure to low socio-economic homes and neighborhoods.

Mental Health Technicians are required to frequently use a laptop to complete documentation and maintain communication through email.
