Job Summary

Smithbucklin, a leading association management company, is seeking a highly skilled Director of Government Affairs to serve our clients, the Window & Door Manufacturers Association and the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing legislative and regulatory initiatives at the federal and state levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and analyze legislative and regulatory issues impacting our client associations.
  • Collect and analyze proposed regulations and legislation at the federal and state level.
  • Represent our client associations before policymakers and in industry coalitions.
  • Manage grassroots activities and databases for both client associations.
  • Provide primary staff support to client Government Affairs Committees.
  • Manage client legislative/regulatory tracking and grassroots databases.
  • Develop issue alerts and press releases on key issues.
  • Write and produce content for association member e-newsletters, websites, webinars, and podcasts.
  • Regularly communicate with association volunteers on industry and association issues.
  • Assist in preparation of association conferences and meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college/university preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in government, agency, non-profit management, or related industry.
  • PC experience with Windows operating system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and focus on customer service.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with housing, building materials, and construction issues.
  • Experience with environmental, energy efficiency, labor issues a plus.
