About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading technical projects across the observatory, working closely with engineering and science teams to bring projects to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project management tasks, including proposal development, project scheduling, budget tracking, and project reporting
  • Write effective technical and programmatic reports
  • Optimize resources among assigned projects, determine scheduling priorities, and coordinate project components for best overall outcome
  • Provide written periodic progress reports to the observatory, including KPIs, milestones, and other progress metrics
  • Coordinate project teams, management, stakeholders, and contractors
  • Improve internal processes through lessons learned and incorporating experience from previous roles and NRAO projects
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science, or software engineering, or significant comparable and relevant work experience
  • At least three years of experience as a project manager, actively leading technology and/or scientific software development projects
  • Demonstrated experience with core project management responsibilities, including scheduling and running effective meetings with geographically dispersed teams, risk management, project scheduling, reporting, acquisition, budgeting
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding in two or more of the following areas: radio telescopes, astronomy, software engineering and development, RF, radar, interferometry, microwave, or millimeter wave systems, high-speed digital electronics, electrical engineering
