Role Summary

The Construction Survey Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Surveyor by facilitating construction layouts and conducting survey operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate various surveying tasks.
  • Evaluate site conditions to ensure accurate surveying.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and maintain surveying instruments and equipment, including GPS systems, robotic total stations, and laser levels.
  • Assist in establishing baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements for ground surveys.
  • Mark survey points using stakes, nails, and hubs.
  • Conduct survey layouts and gather relevant data.
  • Support the Surveyor in installing level loops and performing traverses.
  • Verify the precision of survey data, including measurements and calculations at survey locations.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, including reports and daily logs of field activities.
  • Maintain detailed notes, records, and sketches of survey work.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maps.
  • Perform quality-control assessments on site layouts and traffic management.
  • Comply with the company's safety protocols, identifying and reporting hazardous conditions.
  • Demonstrate initiative in understanding the Surveyor's roles and responsibilities.
  • Engage in special projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in construction surveying.
  • Experience in civil construction is advantageous.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or certification from a trade school.
  • Proficient math skills, including the ability to perform unit conversions and measure distances and angles.
  • Familiarity with software programs such as Trimble (SCS900/Siteworks), MS Office Suite, and ProCore.
  • Ability to transport equipment weighing up to 50lbs throughout the workday, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation for commuting between job sites.
