Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Affective Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1. As a key member of our educational team, you will provide support for special education teachers and students in classrooms and other instructional situations.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with special education and regular education teachers to provide educational services to students with special needs.
  • Assist with instruction and activities in self-contained classrooms, one-on-one, and small groups.
  • Maintain and monitor student activities, providing assistance as needed.
  • Escort students during bus transfers and other situations.
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, on field trips, and on the playground.
  • Interact and correspond with parents and staff regarding student progress and activities.
  • Provide clerical support in various functions.
  • May perform toileting duties, life skills instruction, or assistance with motor skills.
  • May administer medication in the absence of a teacher.
  • Collaborate with the ESS teacher/case manager on individual student plans.
  • Attend required professional development, including CPI, CPR, and First Aid certification.
  • Follow behavior support plans, including CPI and maintaining student confidentiality.
  • Support students who may elope by keeping them within a safe distance.
  • Attend IEP meetings and staff meetings as requested.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency in word processing and computers.
  • May require knowledge of specialized equipment and physical therapy techniques.
  • Some knowledge of child development.
Working Conditions

The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and listening. The work environment may involve wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
