Job Summary

The School Age Child Care Program Staff is responsible for assisting with planning, leading, and implementing recreational and creative experiences for school age children in a group setting. This position will operate at a specific school age site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans that align with the YMCA's core values of caring, equity, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Organize and lead a variety of activities appropriate for school age children, including arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, enrichment activities, and more.
  • Ensure that the site is maintained in a clean and organized manner, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, daily rosters, logbook documentation, and attendance records.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to complete child and program evaluations, ensuring the highest quality of care and services.
  • Maintain compliance with Minnesota Department of Health and Safety (DHS) Certified Centers or Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DHS) Licensed Centers regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to CACFP and Minnesota DHS or Wisconsin DCF regulations for meals and snacks, if applicable.
Requirements
  • Minimum age of 16 for MN locations or 18 for WI locations.
  • Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Minnesota or Wisconsin State background check and state fingerprints required upon hire.
  • Good skills in communication, organization, and human relations.
  • Willingness to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with school age children.
  • Knowledge of DHS or DCF program requirements.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to actively participate in youth games and activities, including getting in the water during swimming. The incumbent must be able to travel locally to YMCA branches and other program sites. The position involves performing all physical aspects of the job, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. The incumbent must be able to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous or dangerous situations. The position also requires maintaining supervision for prolonged periods of time, which may include swimming, outdoor activities, bus rides, field trips, and more.
