The University of Chicago Medicine is seeking a dedicated Patient Transportation Specialist PRN to support our medical facility operations. This role is a 100% onsite position, requiring candidates to be located within the greater Chicagoland area.
As a Patient Transportation Specialist PRN, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, medical records, specimens, and clinical equipment throughout the Health Center. This position involves performing safe patient lifts and transfers as needed.
Position Highlights:
- Shift: Day, Evening, or Night
- Hours per Week: Per Diem
- Location: Varies
- Primary Responsibilities: Patient Transportation
- Employment Status: Non-Union
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to established protocols for the safe transport, lifting, and transferring of patients using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs and stretchers. Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure patient safety during transfers.
- Patient Transport Duties:
- Maintain hygiene by wearing disposable gloves during all transport activities.
- Operate standard and bariatric wheelchairs, ensuring proper handling and safety measures are in place.
- Manage communication effectively through the Teletracking System to keep Dispatchers informed of all transport activities.
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment to safeguard both patients and staff from potential health risks.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, following established protocols for various emergency codes.
- Set up and operate specialized equipment for the safe transport of patients with specific health concerns.
- Perform administrative tasks such as monitoring patient schedules, managing wait times, and maintaining communication devices.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding patient and employee information, including managing daily logs and communication records.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing inquiries and resolving issues as needed.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; prior experience in patient care is preferred. Comprehensive training will be provided.
- Physical capability to lift, turn, and transport patients safely.
- Familiarity with patient transport equipment and procedures.
- Ability to navigate the medical facility and locate various departments.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with staff and patients.
- Proficiency in data entry and analysis to optimize departmental operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures; CPR certification is required.
