Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Student Financial Support Advisor collaborates with the Senior Associate Director and the Financial Aid Office team to assist students and their families in navigating the complexities of financial aid. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students have access to the necessary resources to achieve their academic aspirations. The Student Financial Support Advisor will offer expert guidance, assess applications, and manage financial aid programs in alignment with institutional policies and federal regulations. Ultimately, this position is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to students regarding their financial matters while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and student-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Aid Guidance: Deliver tailored counseling to students and families about financial aid options, policies, and application processes. Aid in understanding eligibility requirements, award packages, and available resources.
  • Application Review: Analyze and assess financial aid applications, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), institutional forms, and pertinent documentation.
  • Award Management: Evaluate eligibility for various financial assistance programs and determine financial need based on established criteria and institutional guidelines. Assist in the packaging and awarding of aid to qualified students, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Verification and Record Maintenance: Conduct necessary verification of student information as mandated by federal guidelines. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of student records and financial aid data while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Financial Aid Consultations: Engage in one-on-one meetings with students to discuss application procedures, eligibility criteria, cost of attendance, and management of financial aid opportunities such as loans and grants.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on federal, state, and institutional regulations concerning financial aid. Ensure compliance with all reporting obligations and maintain precise records.
  • Exceptional Customer Service: Provide outstanding service to students, parents, and other stakeholders at the University. Address inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with key University departments to facilitate a smooth transition for students as they acclimate to the academic environment.
  • Professional Growth: Keep abreast of best practices, regulations, and emerging trends in financial aid through participation in professional development activities, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned that are appropriate for the role.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and regulations.
  • 1-2 years of experience in financial aid or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of student financial need analysis and awarding methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in financial aid management systems, databases, and software, including MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a diverse community.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during peak periods.
