Job Title: Emergency Department Paramedic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our team in the Adult Emergency Department at OU Health. As a Paramedic, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency care to patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the patient, family, and healthcare team to develop and implement a plan of care.
  • Maintain clear communication with the attending physician and licensed nurse assigned to the patient.
  • Observe and report patients' signs or symptoms.
  • Contribute information to the licensed nurse for the development and modification of the patient's plan of care.
  • Assist with the licensed nurse in delivering and documenting care provided to the patient.
  • Provide for patient safety.
  • Maintain competence with charting.
  • Take vital signs.
  • Measure and record patients' input and output.
  • Attach oxygen and cardiac monitor and monitor patients' cardiac rhythm, perform 12 Lead EKG, document EKG strips, suction patients' airways as directed, and report findings to physician and care team assigned to patient.
  • Receive patients from EMS personnel and prepare patients for the physician's care.
  • Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician.
  • Perform basic laboratory procedures.
  • Perform venipunctures, and insertion and removal of peripheral intravenous catheters from extremities.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Paramedic training program.
  • Two (2) years of hospital and/or pre-hospital experience providing immediate stabilization and transport of sick and injured patients.
  • Current license issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a Paramedic.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • ACLS (American Heart Association) required within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic hospital policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to type accurately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Good computer skills with familiarity and/or ability to learn Microsoft Office, Teletracking and other software applications.
  • Knowledge of commonly used hospital based computer programs would be helpful.
  • Ability to relay information accurately and concisely.
  • Ability to work closely with multiple disciplines in the healthcare setting.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks.
