Job Summary

This position is located in the Engineering Division of the U.S. Coast Guard, Sector New York. The successful candidate will serve as a leader within the Structural Maintenance Shop, responsible for assigning work to team members and ensuring the effective operation of the shop.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign work to individual team members in various trades, including painting, carpentry, roofing, masonry, and grounds maintenance.
  • Ensure that necessary plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that required stock is obtained from supply locations.
  • Monitor work in progress and check for compliance with supervisor's instructions.
  • Explain tasks and procedures to assigned employees and answer questions regarding policies and directives.
  • Provide regular updates to the supervisor on work status, progress, and any issues or problems.
  • Ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Perform a variety of trades duties required for the general maintenance of commercial and residential facilities.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.
  • The position requires meeting the physical requirements of the job.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position, rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to lead or supervise.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Technical practices, including theoretical, precise, and artistic skills.
  • Use of measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Education
