Job Title: Bioinformatics Analyst II

We are seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Analyst II to join our team at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting large-scale biological data sets, developing and implementing computational methods for data analysis, and collaborating with researchers to advance our understanding of complex biological systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement advanced computational methods for data analysis, including machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling.
  • Analyze and interpret large-scale biological data sets, including single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and metabolomics data.
  • Collaborate with researchers to design and implement experiments, and to develop and apply computational methods for data analysis.
  • Develop and maintain software tools and pipelines for data analysis and visualization.
  • Present research findings at group meetings and contribute to publications in scientific journals.
Requirements:
  • MS degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biological sciences, bioengineering, mathematics, statistics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant bioinformatics experience with a Master's degree. If PhD, experience acquired through PhD program may be considered in lieu of professional experience.
  • Hands-on work experience in single-cell analyses and integration, harmonization of data sets, statistics, and machine learning.
  • Relevant experience and proficiency in Python programming; fluency in at least 2 common programming languages (Bash, AWK, or R); next-generation sequencing technologies and assays; and high-performance computing (e.g., SGE environment).
  • Excellent communicator and organizational skills of data files, analyses, and generation of plots and graphs for figures for manuscripts and grants.
  • Outstanding time management and able to work on tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year analysis experience on omics datasets and/or single-cell datasets.
  • Minimum of 2 years analysis experience with NGS / High-throughput sequencing data analysis.
  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biological sciences, bioengineering, mathematics, statistics, or related discipline.

The Salk Institute offers a competitive salary range of $67,500 to $88,750 per annum, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, patient advocacy services, and transit/parking program.
