Lutheran Services in Iowa is seeking a dedicated Bilingual Caseworker for Post Release Services and Home Studies to support our mission in the Waterloo region.
The Caseworker will oversee Post Release Services (PRS) and conduct Home Studies for Unaccompanied Children (UC) and their families. This role is essential in providing resource referrals, fostering community connections, and delivering case management services while applying trauma-informed care principles throughout the process. The position may require occasional weekend and evening work.
Key Responsibilities
- Compose and execute comprehensive home studies while engaging with immigrant communities.
- Facilitate the reunification process through culturally sensitive home studies, assessments, referrals, and case management.
- Provide resource referrals and community connections while employing trauma-informed care in all services.
- Serve as an interpreter when language skills are relevant to case services.
- Be available for evening and weekend hours as needed.
Qualifications
Required: A Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences, human services, social services, or a related field, along with a minimum of one year of relevant professional experience. Candidates with equivalent education and experience will also be considered. Fluency in both English and Spanish is essential.
Must be willing to travel up to 200 miles, including potential overnight stays. Candidates must receive ORR approval and pass Child Abuse and Neglect checks as well as FBI fingerprinting, which will be initiated by LSI upon acceptance of the position.
Preferred: Experience working with immigrant populations, Unaccompanied Children, and/or their sponsors. Familiarity with family preservation, kinship care, and general child welfare practices. Proven experience in conducting Home Studies and crafting detailed assessment reports. Knowledge of local community social services is advantageous.
