Position Overview

The role of a Dental Consultant at Gainwell Technologies involves applying your clinical knowledge to assess, approve, or deny dental treatment authorization requests and claims in alignment with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Medi-Cal Dental guidelines. This position is open for ongoing applications.

Your Responsibilities
  • Evaluate dental documentation to establish the medical necessity of orthodontic services, adhering to recognized standards of care.
  • Process Treatment Authorization Requests (TARs), Notices of Authorization (NOAs), and Claim Inquiry Forms (CIFs) in accordance with the procedures mandated by the CA Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to ensure compliance with Medi-Cal Dental regulations.
  • Collaborate with a team of dental consultants, including fellow orthodontists, to manage a balanced workload of prior authorization and claims processing that necessitates the expertise of a seasoned orthodontist. Effective communication is crucial for maintaining operational continuity.
  • Support the training and onboarding of new dental consultants, offering mentorship and guidance, including assistance with complex cases or claims.
  • Provide assistance to other departments as needed, including Claims Processing, Provider and Member Services, Grievances/Appeals, HR/Onboarding, Quality Management, and Peer Review.
Qualifications
  • Must be a resident of California.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on clinical experience as an Orthodontic Specialist providing dental services. Candidates must be recognized specialists in Orthodontics and fulfill all requirements set by the Board of Dental Examiners in California.
  • Possession of an active (non-expired) dental license in California, in good standing, without any suspensions or sanctions.
  • Experience in adjudication and claims processing for the Medi-Cal Dental Program in California is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medi-Cal Dental criteria and program requirements is essential.
  • Must hold the designation of Orthodontist.
Work Environment
  • This position offers a hybrid work model, with some days required on-site and others available for remote work.
  • Part-time employment status at 20 hours per week, classified as a salaried W-2 employee.
  • Employees must have a reliable broadband internet connection with a minimum speed of 24 Mbps download and 8 Mbps upload for effective remote work.
