We are seeking a highly skilled Coatings Chemist to develop coating formulations that incorporate our proprietary multifunctional material technology.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development of new products and will collaborate closely with our R&D team to bring them to market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop paired primer and topcoat formulations
  • Conduct experiments to measure the physical properties of films
  • Optimize formulations for performance characteristics, including building energy efficiency, moisture durability, occupant comfort, film adhesion, drying, and aesthetics
  • Source raw materials for R&D and pilot manufacturing
  • Document test results and track project progress
  • Prepare technical reports for customers, partners, and public communications
  • Collaborate with our R&D team and industry partners to create valuable product applications of our multifunctional material technology

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Industry experience formulating paints and/or coatings
  • Able to develop formulations from concept to product
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated by entrepreneurship and able to work independently in a startup
  • Passionate about sustainability

The job is based at Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts. Greentown Labs is the premier cleantech incubator in the United States. Some projects may require multi-day travel to other locations.
