Job Title: Public Safety Officer

St. Charles Health System is seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Officer to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, caregivers, and visitors within our healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and security of all patients, caregivers, and visitors
  • Operate metal detectors and maintain their use within policy
  • Frequently inspect buildings to ensure security of entrances, departments, and general public areas
  • Provide professional service and direction to patients and families presenting to our hospitals for after-hours care
  • Provide de-escalation support as situations require
  • Coordinate with Admitting and Nursing staff to ensure all entrances are monitored
  • Responsible for crowd control during mass casualties or events
  • Monitor cameras and respond to alarms related to facility-related problems
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas
  • Function as an unlicensed assistive care provider under the direction and supervision of Registered Nursing
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Ability to obtain DPSST Armed/Unarmed Professional certification within 90 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Code Gray Training upon hire
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO)
  • One year of corrections, military, first responder (law enforcement, EMS), Behavioral health or related security experience
  • One year customer services related experience with heavy public contact
  • Two years security experience in a hospital setting
Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interact with a diverse population. The Public Safety Officer will be required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform the job safely.
