JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Seeking a certified or experienced veterinary technician with a minimum of three years in the field. The ideal candidate will possess excellent client communication skills and be proficient in English, both written and spoken. Basic computer skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet throughout the day. A friendly demeanor and a strong customer service orientation are crucial. A professional appearance is mandatory, with scrubs provided by the employee. Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, is required. Responsibilities include administering injections, taking vital signs, and properly restraining animals for examinations and treatments. The technician must be capable of delivering treatments and medications via intravenous, oral, and subcutaneous routes. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential. All new hires will undergo a 90-day probationary period, during which employment may be terminated at management's discretion. All requirements are subject to change by the employer at any time.
Reports to: Head Technician
TECHNICIAN DUTIES:
- Prepare records and consent forms
- Admit patients
- Present invoices and prepare estimates
- Handle telephone inquiries
- Maintain health and rabies certificate files
- Greet clients warmly
- Dispense medications, pet foods, and supplies
- Invoice prescriptions and pet foods to manage inventory
- Update client and patient files
- Perform closing procedures
- Complete other assigned duties
- Review vaccination records and prepare vaccines according to protocol
- Assist the veterinarian in medical procedures with proper restraint techniques
- Support the veterinarian during surgical procedures while adhering to aseptic protocols
- Maintain and operate medical equipment
- Conduct routine laboratory procedures and analyses in hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology
- Prepare samples for external laboratory analysis
- Monitor patients under anesthesia
- Induce anesthesia and intubate patients
- Administer treatments and injections as directed by a veterinarian
- Initiate emergency procedures as necessary
- Maintain pharmacy records and logs for controlled substances, anesthesia, fecal tests, and heartworm tests
- Take and develop radiographs
- Measure vital signs of animals, including temperature, pulse, and respiration
- Perform dental cleanings
- Conduct skin and ear cytologies
- Perform urinary and venous catheterization
- Complete ear cleanings and nail trims
- Execute other assigned duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is located in a small animal hospital, involving work in both front and back areas of the facility. The role entails a high level of client interaction and exposure to x-rays and anesthetic gases, with appropriate protective measures in place. There is potential exposure to zoonotic diseases and hazardous materials.
Compensation details: $16-$18 Hourly Wage
