Mental Health Worker

Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center, a 60-bed inpatient psychiatric facility operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is seeking a compassionate and talented Mental Health Worker to join its dynamic team.
The selected candidate will provide programmatic direct care services to clients, assist in the implementation of rehabilitative behavior and recreational programs, perform client-related housekeeping duties, attend client review meetings, accompany clients to various appointments, and provide leisure activities to clients.
The incumbent will serve as a role model for Mental Health Worker I (MHW I) and contribute to effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure the quality of client care and promote the image of SCFMHC.
Key responsibilities include completing MHW admission information on clients by interviewing, orienting, and documenting the information on the appropriate forms and communicating priorities to the appropriate people in order to deliver care.
The ideal candidate will maintain a commitment to work-related growth and competency through ongoing staff development programs that promote role development, possess knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the care, development, and treatment of mentally ill individuals, and demonstrate knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in a mental health facility.
Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse, and/or who have experienced homelessness is required, as well as bilingual or multilingual fluency given the population served.
Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week, 2nd shift, 2:45pm -11pm, and employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.
Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center provides comprehensive, timely forensic evaluations for individuals to determine pre-trial competency and/or criminal responsibility, as well as quality, integrated care to support an individual's recovery process through ongoing psychiatric treatment and care.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct care service to the mentally ill, emotionally or physically handicapped, or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
An Associate's degree or higher with a major in psychology, human services, mental health or retardation may be substituted for the required experience.
