About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Worker to join our team at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. As a Mental Health Worker, you will provide direct care services to individuals with serious mental illness, substance abuse, and/or who have experienced homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care services in the skills of daily living, including feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, cleaning, and clothing maintenance.
  • Assist in taking and reporting vital signs to ensure the daily needs, dignity, and human rights of patients are met.
  • Establish rapport with all patients to better serve them and promote safety.
  • Deliver trauma-informed care, utilizing de-escalation techniques and individual crisis plans.
  • Provide 15-minute checks and 1:1 or constant observation as ordered, responding efficiently and effectively to emergency situations.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression, writing clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Ability to interact with people who are under emotional stress.
  • Capacity to work in a team setting and in group situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse, and/or who have experienced homelessness.
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in a mental health facility.

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital provides inpatient psychiatric services to adults with serious mental illness, with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety, and return to the community.
