We are currently seeking a Patient Account Coding Specialist to join our efforts in promoting healthier communities through comprehensive and respectful healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Extract pertinent information from patient records and serve as a liaison with healthcare providers and other stakeholders to clarify details.
- Review documents for completeness; amend information as necessary.
- Assign appropriate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and DRG codes.
- Conduct patient chart audits and provide coding feedback and training to clinical staff as required.
- Address inquiries, offer guidance, and educate providers and staff on medical coding practices.
- Maintain the practice management system by accurately entering, verifying, and updating insurance and claims data.
- Prepare, review, submit, and investigate rejected claims, ensuring follow-up on clean claims with various entities.
- Perform data entry for Labcorp invoices and optometry Medicaid waiver charges.
- Engage in professional development activities and participate in committees as needed.
- Adhere to NHC Standards of Conduct and Mission Statement in all duties performed.
- Carry out related tasks and other responsibilities as assigned, ensuring compliance with physical requirements and OSHA risk levels.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of experience in medical or dental coding is required. Familiarity with collections and medical office software is essential.
Educational Background:
- High School Diploma or GED is required. Specialized training in medical and/or dental coding/billing is preferred. Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA is mandatory.
