Position Overview:
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking motivated, innovative, and detail-oriented individuals for the role of EH&S Intern. This internship will involve collaboration with SEL's Environmental Health & Safety team and various departmental representatives to assist in the enhancement and upkeep of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
A typical day in this role may encompass the following tasks:
  • Supporting data collection and management for Environmental Health & Safety metrics, including greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and other health and safety elements.
  • Assisting in the creation and upkeep of procedures (PROC), work instructions (WI), and Best-Known Methods (BKM).
  • Engaging in industrial hygiene and environmental sampling activities, along with preparing relevant reports.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of EH&S training programs for SEL personnel.
  • Participating in proactive risk management and incident prevention strategies.
  • Assisting in incident investigations to determine root causes and suggest corrective measures.
  • Researching federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.

Candidate Profile:
This opportunity may be ideal for you if you:
  • Are currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Human Factors/Ergonomics, or a related field.
  • Possess familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Can commit to part-time work throughout the year, up to 40 hours weekly.
  • Exhibit strong skills in data analysis, writing, documentation, and verbal communication.
  • Are eager to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Can work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Have a passion for Environmental, Health, and Safety practices.
  • Meet background check requirements and have a satisfactory drug test result.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SharePoint, Power Apps, Workday, or Power BI.
  • Understanding of EPA, OSHA, and other EH&S regulations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, GHG Protocol, and ACGIH standards.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.
