Job Title: Aircraft Carrier Propulsion Machinery Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Aircraft Carrier Propulsion Machinery Engineer to join our team at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division. As a key member of our Engineering Propulsion Machinery Department (E64), you will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the overhaul, repair, and design of complex propulsion machinery, specifically main engines, on CVN 68 (Nimitz) Class and CVN 78 (Ford) Class carriers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate design improvement efforts across multiple programs
  • Research, develop, design, and test components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines
  • Apply engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results
  • Support and participate in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 14 years of relevant exempt experience, or Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience, or Ph.D. and 9 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of the design, operation, overhaul, and repair of steam-driven propulsion turbines and reduction gears on CVN 68 (Nimitz) Class and/or CVN 78 (Ford) Class aircraft carriers
  • Expertise with the design concepts associated with large-scale gears, turbines, bearings, fasteners, and bolted joints
  • Strong skills in project management, clear and concise communication, supply chain management, risk management, quality management, and technical presentations
