Correctional Detail Officer

The Correctional Detail Officer is a critical role within the City of Augusta GA, responsible for overseeing the safety and security of inmates assigned to outside work detail. This position requires a high level of supervision, coordination, and communication skills to ensure the successful completion of daily work activities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned Inmate Crew, conferring with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities.
- Monitor the status of work in progress and inspect completed work, conferring with co-workers and providing technical expertise as needed.
- Supervise the work of inmates assigned to work detail, conducting roll calls and head counts, and ensuring that work is carried out safely and security is maintained.
- Communicate scheduling of daily duties and expectations to inmates, and train inmate workers in job functions as necessary.
- Conduct searches for contraband to maintain ARCCI security.
- Obtain and maintain inventory equipment and supplies for work detail assignments, ensuring proper working order of required equipment.
- Communicate with ARCCI officials, supervisor, other employees, counselor, inmates, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities and resolve problems.
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Three (3) years of experience as a Corrections Officer or experience working in public safety, law enforcement, and/or military field.
- Considerable knowledge of modern corrections practices and procedures and departmental and safety rules and regulations.
- Familiarity with Department of Corrections guidelines and federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the incarceration of persons and geography of the County.
- Proficiency in supervising, assessing situations with accuracy and speed, interpersonal relations, use of self-defense techniques and equipment, and road maintenance.
- Mastery use of firearms.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- May supervise and/or train designated subordinate personnel.
- Supervise state inmate labor.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving history.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain the Peace Officer Standards & Training Certification within the timeframe required by the department.
- This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
- More than 50% of this position requires travel from office to other locations.
