Job Summary

The Correctional Probation Senior Officer is responsible for supervising and monitoring a caseload of offenders, including youthful offenders, drug offender probationers, and community controllees. This position may also involve supervising other types of offenders and performing duties related to intake, court liaison, training, and electronic monitoring device installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Encourage and foster offender compliance with supervision orders through guidance, goal setting, and monitoring of offender behavior.
  • Conduct field and office supervision visits to ensure compliance with conditions of supervision and provide assistance to offenders as needed.
  • Assess and identify offender needs, treatment options, and supervision objectives, and refer offenders as appropriate.
  • Establish and record structured treatment programs, client management classifications, pre-trial contracts, and other programs designed to enhance offender improvement.
  • Utilize information management systems to develop offender payment plans and enforce compliance with payment plans.
  • Maintain case records, documenting the status of offender background, legal history, treatment, and progress under supervision.
  • Conduct pre-sentence, pre-trial, post-sentence, and other required investigations on offenders.
  • Makes recommendations on offenders under supervision or pending disposition to sentencing or releasing authorities.
  • Exhibits appropriate demeanor and knowledge as a representative of the department.
  • Attends hearings or appears as a witness in proceedings before sentencing or releasing authorities.
  • Reports non-compliance with supervision orders to sentencing or releasing authorities and prepares violation reports.
  • Maintains liaison with the judiciary, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, treatment providers, and other criminal justice representatives.
  • Develops partnerships with local law enforcement to foster public safety.
  • Conducts individual and group counseling of offenders as needed.
  • Interviews offenders to obtain information relating to supervision or investigation.
  • Monitors and tests offenders for the use of controlled substances and alcohol as directed by sentencing or releasing authorities.
  • Develops and maintains contact with resources suitable for placement of offenders in public service assignments.
  • Conducts searches and makes arrests of offenders under supervision.
  • Installs and maintains electronic/radio equipment, including global positioning satellite systems, to monitor offenders.
  • Handles administrative duties and assists supervisors in their absence as assigned.
  • Serves on teams or committees and task forces to study issues, solve problems, refine existing practices, develop new programs, or implement new policies.
  • Attends and delivers training relating to the duties and responsibilities of the job and for career development.
Requirements
  • Certified in accordance with Florida Statutes.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid driver's license as a condition of employment.
Work Environment

This position is located at the Lake City Main Probation and Parole Office in Lake City, Florida.
