Position Overview

The Senior Medical Assistant for Multiple Locations is tasked with delivering exceptional support across various sites and specialties within the Houston Methodist Primary Care Group.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Medical Assistant, you will:
  • Provide exemplary assistance in patient care and services, showcasing advanced knowledge in complex examinations and treatments.
  • Communicate effectively and execute delegated medical assistant tasks under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
  • Oversee the scope of practice, including roles such as Hand Hygiene Validator and EMR super-user.
  • Manage patient check-in/check-out processes, appointment scheduling, and ensure compliance with medical necessity and eligibility verification.
  • Support accurate claims submission and may engage in registration and revenue cycle activities.
  • Assist in patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, and treatment processes.

Team Collaboration

In this role, you will:
  • Foster a positive work environment, contributing to team efforts and resolving issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team, sharing vital patient information comprehensively.
  • Mentor peers in critical thinking and decision-making processes, promoting open communication.
  • Independently perform duties while serving as a clinical resource, guiding colleagues to enhance patient care.

Patient Care and Coordination

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Delivering care to patients under the supervision of physicians and nursing staff, respecting cultural diversity.
  • Conducting pre-visit planning and documentation to anticipate patient needs.
  • Documenting vital signs, chief complaints, and medical histories in the electronic medical record.
  • Following up with patients to ensure adherence to care recommendations and facilitating care coordination.
  • Utilizing excellent communication skills to enhance patient satisfaction and service quality.

Quality and Safety

In this capacity, you will:
  • Report patient observations and conditions to the appropriate medical staff.
  • Perform routine tests and maintain a safe environment for patients and families.
  • Ensure effective communication between patients, medical staff, and third parties to resolve access and service issues.

Financial Responsibilities

As part of your role, you will:
  • Manage inventory and supplies for exam rooms efficiently.
  • Record information accurately during charge entry, registration, and insurance verification processes.
  • Educate patients regarding billing processes and financial responsibilities.

Professional Development

You will be expected to:
  • Enhance the skills of team members and participate in ongoing educational activities.
  • Contribute innovative solutions to improve departmental performance.
  • Maintain current certifications and engage in continuous training.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience as a medical assistant, particularly in complex disease management.
  • Required certifications include RMA, CMA, or equivalent.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.

  • Proficiency in medical practices and patient care.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
