POSITION SUMMARY:


The Superintendent is tasked with overseeing various on-site activities related to construction projects, ensuring that work is completed ahead of schedule, within budget, and according to specifications.

Responsibilities will vary based on client needs and project scale.

Key Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all duties typically required of a foreman.
  • Coordinate and assign site activities to foremen and field personnel to meet deadlines and production targets.
  • Manage the activities of one or more subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with clients to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure timely material deliveries, verify quantities, and check for damage.
  • Oversee the receipt of all deliveries.
  • Document any damage to materials on packing slips or through photographs.
  • Record any change order requests from clients.
  • Monitor documentation flow to ensure all records are complete, legible, and properly filed or distributed.
  • Plan ahead to order necessary materials or equipment to sustain crew productivity.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of specifications and their impact on job quality and production.
  • Investigate and resolve contract disputes, making recommendations to upper management.
  • Suggest improvements for production, performance, quality, and safety.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, addendums, and change orders.
  • Recognize changes to work plans and track them accordingly.
  • Conduct minor job layout using levels, transit, and string lines.
  • Assess the quality of completed work.
  • Monitor productivity reports and related payroll records.
  • Address customer complaints promptly in collaboration with supervisors.
  • Ensure proper safety equipment is available and utilized correctly.
Establish and nurture positive working relationships with clients to foster repeat and referral business.

  • Facilitate technical and safety training, and recommend employees for appropriate training programs.
  • Assist Human Resources by conducting interviews, making hiring and training recommendations, evaluating work performance, and addressing employee complaints in the field.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor direct reports.

SUPERVISORY:

  • Supervise a minimum of one to two foremen, leadmen, and crews of up to 30 or more employees.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a supervisory role within heavy industrial construction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Familiarity with MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors while on-site.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction tools, machinery, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to forecast and monitor project costs.
  • Understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities, motivate workers, and communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and clients.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, and internet usage.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Perform calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
  • Identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret a wide range of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
  • Maintain strong relationships with all team members and supervisors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift performing physically demanding tasks in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb as needed.
  • Stamina to perform these tasks repetitively for extended periods.

Environmental Conditions:
Exposure to changing weather and site conditions.

  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is mandatory (including but not limited to safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.).
  • Navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; recognize details in objects or drawings and identify slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Maintain good balance and work at heights.
  • Adequate vision (either naturally or with correction).
  • Adequate hearing (either naturally or with correction).
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet effectively.

HOURS:
This position is a full-time role typically requiring 50 hours of work per week, subject to project demands.

TRAVEL:
Travel may be required up to 90%.
