Your Role
As a Process Safety Specialist, you will be an integral part of our team, characterized by a blend of diverse expertise yet unified in our mission. You will play a pivotal role in establishing the benchmarks for Process Safety at BIL Sila, guiding project teams in implementing essential process modifications and engineering controls to ensure safe scaling. This position presents a unique chance to contribute to the development and execution of a comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) program from its inception.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to engineers, project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders in evaluating process safety requirements.
- Lead safety assessments such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), including quantitative risk assessments (QRA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Review multidisciplinary engineering documentation and existing systems to confirm compliance with internal and industry standards.
- Develop and uphold standards, specifications, and guidelines related to Process Safety.
- Assess the physical impacts and associated consequences of specific process safety scenarios.
- Conduct risk assessments for emerging process safety issues and formulate mitigation strategies.
- Oversee internal investigations of incidents and near misses, defining corrective actions and ensuring their implementation.
- Influence cross-functional teams and drive technical solutions collaboratively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant process safety experience.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards such as API, NFPA, ASME, CGA, and CCPS, with experience in applying these to develop internal guidelines.
- Strong understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program regulations.
- Experience in risk reduction strategies and protection measures.
- Ability to effectively engage with a learning organization in process safety management.
- Team-oriented mindset with the capability to independently resolve challenges.
- Proven track record of critically evaluating established practices and driving improvements.
- Experience with Dust Explosion Hazard analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with process simulation tools is advantageous.
Working Conditions
- Adhere to safety protocols by wearing personal protective equipment such as lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes.
- Be prepared to navigate between different locations and maintain a stationary position for extended periods.
- Utilize office equipment, including computers and printers, in a designated workspace.
Compensation
The starting base salary for this position ranges from $151,000 to $177,503, influenced by factors such as education, experience, and skills. This base salary is part of a comprehensive Total Rewards package that may include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.
