Job Summary

UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our 17-suite operating room, providing high-quality care for a wide range of specialties, from robotics and kidney transplants to trauma and more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room for procedures, including setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery, while maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
  • Assist in the preparation, care, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Help transfer patients to the recovery room after surgery and clean and restock the operating room.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
Requirements
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification with renewal.
  • Ability to work a rotating 10- or 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage.
