Overview of the Role
MedStar Health is seeking a Pharmacy Services Manager to oversee our operations at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

As the Pharmacy Services Manager, you will be tasked with the administration, coordination, and oversight of the Central Pharmacy Services. These responsibilities will be executed in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, as well as the policies, procedures, and standards of Georgetown University Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take direct responsibility for managing and operating the distributive functions of the Central Pharmacy Service.
  • Fulfill all duties associated with the Pharmacist I role, including but not limited to distributive, clinical, and research activities, while providing support for staff Pharmacist functions as needed.
  • Engage in the development or revision of Pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and enforce standard operating procedures regarding drug storage, inventory management, preparation, admixture, distribution, security, transportation, and waste management for various drug categories.
  • Assist in the inventory management, reordering, and maintenance of the Central Pharmacy stock.
  • Plan, schedule, assign, and review work activities within the department.
  • Conduct personnel management tasks, including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching, counseling, evaluating, and terminating employees as authorized by the Department Head.
  • Design, deliver, and assess orientation, training, and continuing education programs for department and hospital staff.
  • Participate in monitoring and controlling assigned operational and capital budgets in line with administrative guidelines.
  • Exemplify exceptional Guest and Staff Relations, holding departmental staff accountable for adherence to established standards.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities that align with the position and area. The above responsibilities provide a general overview of the role and are not exhaustive.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution is required.
  • Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency program or equivalent experience is required.
Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience as a hospital pharmacist in a progressive clinical setting is required.
  • Some supervisory experience is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current DC license as a Pharmacist (PHARMD) is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmacology and related sciences.
  • Understanding of the chemical, biological, and therapeutic properties of a wide range of medications.
  • Familiarity with management principles and Federal/Local laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to provide direction and work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computerized procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for patients across various age groups.
  • Knowledge of age-related considerations in drug selection and pharmacokinetics.
  • Annual performance evaluations will assess the maintenance of knowledge and skills based on established criteria.
  • Employees are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of knowledge and skills to ensure continued employment.
