Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at Medstar. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy operations and ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications to patients, including selecting, labeling, and packaging pharmaceuticals.
  • Enter physician orders into the hospital computer system to update patient profiles and charges.
  • Assist patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy-related needs.
  • Monitor stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenish medications as needed.
  • Fills and replaces medications in automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing units.
  • Prepare mini bags, large volume parenterals, and other medications using aseptic techniques.
  • Deliver and retrieve medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.
  • Compound products in bulk or per individual order and prepare private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging.
  • Complete and maintain controlled substance inventory log/records.
  • Participate in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians to department operations and the computer system.
  • Maintain clean and orderly workstations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training.
  • Eighteen months of hospital experience required.
  • A diploma from an approved pharmacy technician training program may be an acceptable alternative for six months of experience.
  • DC DOH - Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
  • PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification within 180 Days required.
Compensation

This position has a hiring range of $20.941 - $31.852.
