Job Overview: We are in search of a dedicated and skilled Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) who is committed to enhancing the educational experiences of students with visual challenges. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering tailored instruction and support, equipping students with the necessary resources to reach their academic aspirations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students' visual capabilities and requirements.
  • Create and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored for students with visual impairments, which may include Braille instruction, orientation and mobility training, and the use of assistive technology.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom educators, parents, and support personnel to modify curriculum and teaching strategies to accommodate the distinct needs of visually impaired learners.
  • Deliver direct instruction in essential skills such as daily living skills, tactile graphics, and adaptive techniques.
  • Evaluate and track student progress, modifying teaching approaches as necessary to foster learning and independence.
  • Advocate for the educational needs and accessibility of students within educational and community settings.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student achievements and engage in effective communication with all stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Visual Impairment, Special Education, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or a commitment to obtaining certification.
  • Experience in working with visually impaired students, ideally in an educational environment.
  • Proficiency in Braille and familiarity with assistive technologies for visually impaired individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and a collaborative spirit to work effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • A genuine passion for empowering students with visual impairments and fostering their independence and success.
