Job Title: Assistant Professor - Ornamental Horticulturist
Position Summary:
The Department of Horticulture at Auburn University invites applications for the role of Assistant Professor specializing in Ornamental Horticulture. This is a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position with a focus on both research (60%) and teaching (40%).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct applied research aimed at improving ornamental crop production and utilization within the region.
- Establish a robust research program that addresses the needs of the local Nursery and Ornamental Greenhouse sectors.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with faculty and extension personnel to enhance research outcomes.
- Publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and secure external funding to support research initiatives.
- Mentor undergraduate students in research projects and provide guidance to graduate students pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.
- Deliver instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with course offerings tailored to the selected candidate's expertise.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Horticulture or a closely related field by the time of employment. Candidates should demonstrate experience in ornamental crop research at the graduate level, showcasing a track record of scholarly productivity through published articles and successful grant proposals.
Experience in both outdoor and protected cultivation methods for ornamental crops is essential, along with strong communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
Eligibility for employment in the United States is required at the time of appointment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral experience in ornamental crop research.
- Proven ability to secure competitive grant funding as a principal investigator.
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and excellence in educational practices.
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research settings.
